The Balkan Baroque (1997)

Depicting culture and identity, Abramovic uses dual forms: video and live performance together, and exhibits how human race can be so dreadful by their own hands.

For four days she performs, and the aftermath of her own performance was extreme sorrow, that she dealt with for long. But as the audience configured those brutal images of blood and helplessness, it shared empathy. The performance earned Abramović the Golden Lion Award at the Venice Biennale.
